WORCESTER, Mass. – The RIT Men's Hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision at Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) foe Holy Cross, Saturday, in the final game of the regular season.
PLAYOFF UPDATE
With the loss, RIT earns the fifth seed for the AHA Tournament and will travel back to fourth-seeded Holy Cross for a best-of-three quarterfinal series next weekend (Mar. 6-8)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Holy Cross converted a power play goal with 5:25 left in the first. Ty Gagno send a puck through the crease to Devin Phillips outside the right post for a one-timer over Tiger sophomore goaltender
Jakub Krbecek.
The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead with another power play goal at 10:00 of the third after Jack Stockfish scored on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle over Krbecek, far post.
RIT got on the board with a shorthanded goal at 15:02. First-year forward
Caleb Elfering carried a puck through the neutral zone and dumped a pass to senior forward
Simon Isabelle at the left point. Isabelle one-touched a return pass to Elfering, who flipped a backhand from the faceoff circle over Danick Leroux's shoulder, near post.
Holy Cross reclaimed a two-goal lead with an empty-net goal by Jack Seymour with 48.7 remaining.
The Tigers got one back with 7.6 left in regulation after first-year forward
William Moore cleaned up a rebound inside the left post of a shot by first-year forward
Camden Bajzer.
GAME NOTES
- Krbecek was credited with 24 saves in the setback.
- Holy Cross converted 2-of-5 power plays while the Tigers were 0-for-3.
- Sophomore defenseman Ryan Williams logged a secondary assist on the Tigers' first goal, while Elfering was credited with the secondary helper on the second.
