ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Six RIT student athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors announced by the conference, Monday (Feb. 23).
Junior
Gwen Petrie was named the Women's Diver of the Week. First year
Taryn Hickey was named the Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week.
On the men's side, graduate student
Max Matteucci was named the Baseball Performer of the Week. Junior
Luke Albanese was named the Diver of the Week and first-year
Griffin Tomsheck was named the Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week. Junior
Jack DeFeo was the Indoor Track Performer of the Week.
Petrie won both diving events at the 2026 Liberty League Championships, posting scores of 465.00 in the 1 Meter finals and 502.95 in the 3 Meter finals.
Hickey won the 100 Freestyle at the 2026 Liberty League Championships in 51.41, nearly surpassing the meet record time of 51.38. She won the 50 Free (23.70) in addition to finishing fourth in the 100 Fly. Hickey also swam legs in the 200 Medley and 200 Free relays that both finished third, the 400 Free relay that placed fourth, and the 400 Medley that took fifth.
In Friday's season opener at The College of New Jersey, Matteucci finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, and one run scored. In Saturday's doubleheader, Matteucci went 1-for-2 in the first game with a double and an RBI. He added two more hits and another RBI in the second game of the doubleheader. Matteucci totaled 5 hits in 9 at-bats, three doubles, two RBIs, one walk, and one strikeout in the three-game series.
Ablanese set a meet record score of 566.90 to win the 1 Meter event at the Liberty League Championships after taking second in the 3 Meter with a finals score of 596.60.
Tomsheck won the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events at the Liberty League Championships with personal-best times of 55.49 and 2:01.57, respectively. Tomsheck also took fifth place in the 200 IM (1:54.38) and second in the 400 Medley Relay with a leg time of 55.06.
DeFeo took third place in the 400m at the Penn State Tune-Up with a program record time of 48.39 seconds. The junior was the top Division III finisher in the event.
