Max Matteucci totaled four extra-base hits and senior outfielder
Jackson Rusiecki reached base five times as the RIT baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader at TCNJ, taking Game 1 by a 3-2 score before closing out the afternoon with a 7-2 victory.
GAME ONE (RIT 3, TCNJ 2)
- Senior first baseman Trent Rapp doubled to left-center in the second inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Evan Kurtz to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
- Graduate infielder Max Matteucci opened the fourth inning with a double before scoring on a single by senior catcher Roberto Reade to extend the Tigers' lead to 2-0.
- TCNJ pulled within one in the bottom of the fourth, but senior reliever Ryan Moran stranded the tying run to preserve the Tigers' advantage.
- Senior outfielder Caelen Kim delivered a clutch two-out RBI double into the right-center gap in the eighth inning to push the lead to 3-1.
GAME TWO (RIT 7, TCNJ 2)
- The Tigers struck early again with three first-inning runs, highlighted by a two‑run double to right-center by graduate outfielder Hayes Waddell that scored Rusiecki and Rapp.
- Senior second baseman Jarin Moses added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 3-0.
- RIT broke the game open in the eighth when junior catcher Isaac Braegelmann punched an RBI single through the left side before Matteucci lined a two‑run single to center to extend the lead to 6-2.
- Kurtz doubled to start the ninth and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Moses.
- Senior pitcher Liam Miller tossed three scoreless innings to start the game, allowing one hit and striking out two before the bullpen held TCNJ to a single run over the final six frames.
GAME NOTES
- Matteucci finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with three doubles, a single, and three RBI.
- Rapp totaled three hits, including a pair of extra-base knocks across the two games.
- Kim reached base four times and recorded the eventual game-winning RBI in the opener.
- Braegelmann went 3-for-5 in Game 2, scoring twice and adding an RBI.
- RIT improves to 2-1 to open the 2026 campaign.
