PITTSFORD, N.Y. – RIT first years
Marco Rivera (149 lb.) and
Zach Gerby (165 lb.) won their weight classes at the Pelicano Invtiational, Saturday.
Rivera beat Nicholas Ewan (Alfred) with an 18-1 technical fall in his opening bout. He defeated Brandon Ribeiro (Ithaca), 10-3 in the quarterfinals before a 5-4 win over Justin Coiteux (SJFC) in the semifinals. Rivera beat first year
Luke Pires, 18-10 in the championship match.
Gerby pinned Jose Rodriguez 1:48 into his opening match. He pinned Cole Kuhar (Ithaca) 6:20 into the quarterfinal match before a 12-1 major decision over Tristian Robinson-July (Cortland) in the semifinals. Gerby beat Rider Ludrosky (SJFC) 21-6 in the championship bout.
First year
Konrad Haugeto placed second at 157 lb. He beat Alex Kaufmann (NYU) 14-6 in his opening match. He pinned Johnathan Granito (Cortland) in the quarterfinals, and Ayden Estep (SJFC) 21-6 in the semifinals. Haugeto lost 8-4 to Aaron Nelson (Ithaca) in the championship match.
Pires pinned Dylan Kolk 2:19 into his opening match at 149 lb. He beat David Ensminger (Cortland) 18-2 in the quarterfinals and was a 12-9 win over Brandon Drummond in the semifinals.
Sophomore
Quincy Bonville placed second at 285 lb. He pinned Austin DeBolt 1:08 into his first match. He pinned Brady Callahan 1:48 into the semifinal match before a 7-4 loss to Colton Hall (Alfred) in the title bout.
First year
Alex Brandt placed fourth at 149 lb. and junior
Cortez Henderson placed sixth at 184 lb.
RIT returns to action on Friday (Feb. 27) at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship in Ithaca.
