UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH - RIT sophomore
Luke Pires placed second in the 149 lb. Navy Division at the JCU Open, Saturday.
Pires beat Ben Brownfield (Mount Union), 8-5 in his opening match. He pinned Bryce Armstrong Baglien (NCWA - University of Wisconsin) 2:25 into his quarterfinal match and beat Noah Creque (Baldwin Wallace) 11-4 in the semifinal. Pires lost to Ethan Higgins (Seton Hill) in the championship bout.
First year
Alex Brandt placed third in the 149 lb. Blue Division. He beat Zavier Stephens (Baldwin Wallace) 12-3 in the quarterfinal before a 14-10 loss to Antonio Hobbs (Tiffin) in the semifinal. Brandt advanced in the consolation semi by medical forfeit over Xavier Dombkowski (Mercyhurst) and pinned Andrew Gammon (Gannon) 1:50 into the third-place match.
First year
Marco Rivera placed third in the 149 lb. Navy Division beating Colin McQuone (Gannon) with 22-7 tech. fall in his opening match. After a loss in the quarterfinals, Rivera pinned Jeremiah Sawicky (Gannon) 1:12 into his consolation match. He pinned Andy Sanchez (Baldwin Wallace) before a 18-9 major decision over Noah Creque (Baldwin Wallace) in the consolation semi. Rivera beat Liam Hein (Point Park University), 8-6 in the third-place match.

Gabe Scalise placed fourth in the 141 lb. Navy Division and sophomore
Gavin Bobb (157 lb. Blue) and first years
Amari Payton (141 lb. Blue) and
Marcos Burgos (197 lb. Blue) placed sixth.
