Women's Hockey closes out regular season with two games at No. 4 Penn State

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team closes out the regular season with a pair of Atlantic Hockey America games at No. 4 Penn State on Feb. 13-14. Friday's game begins at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's game starts at 2:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
RIT split a pair of games against Syracuse, losing 3-2 at Syracuse on Friday and winning 4-2 at home the following day. Senior forward Jaidan Fahrny's goal at 11:08 of the first period tied the game at 1-1. Junior forward Linda Rulle scored at 17:03 of the second period to tie the game, 2-2. Sophomore goalie Brenna McNamara made 33 saves in net.
 
Rulle tallied a career-high two goals in Saturday's win. First year forward Tilli Keranen scored the game-winning goal at 5:30 of the third period and sophomore forward Ireland Stein added an empty-net goal. Junior Addie Alvarez had three assists and senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 22 saves in goal.
 
ABOUT RIT:
RIT enters the weekend third in the Atlantic Hockey America standings with a 10-12-0 conference record and 32 points. RIT is one point ahead of Syracuse in fourth and two points ahead of Lindenwood in fifth.
 
The Tigers average 3.0 goals per game and allow 2.5 goals per contest. The Tigers are 32-of-100 (32.0%) on the power play and 85-of-109 (77.9%) on the penalty kill. RIT has won 884-of-1,789 (49.4%) of its faceoffs and blocked 458 shots.
 
RIT features six players with eight or more goals and eight players with 10 or more points. Alvarez leads the team with 31 points and 22 assists. Junior defender Emma Pickering is second with 26 points and is tied for the team lead with 11 goals. Keranen and sophomore forward Brac Kelley are tied for third on the team in scoring with 20 points each. Kelley is tied for first on the team with 11 goals. Sophomore forward Kailey Favro is fifth on the team with 19 points (4g, 15a) and Rulle is sixth with 17 points (10g, 7a).
 
Pickering leads the team with 76 blocked shots. First year defender Laura Dyke is second with 42 blocks and sophomore defender Madison Buziak is third with 41 blocks. First year defender Riley Gramlich is fourth with 39 blocked shots.
 
Bellina is 13-13 with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage, while McNamara is 2-3 with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage.

ABOUT PENN STATE:
Penn State enters the weekend first in the AHA standings with a 21-1-0 conference record and 64 points. The Nittany Lions swept a pair of conference games at Lindenwood, winning 6-3 on Friday and 5-0 the following day. First year defender Danica Maynard scored a goal and had three assists in Friday's win. Senior forward Katelyn Roberts finished with a goal and an assist and graduate student forward Taylor Lum handed out two assists. Senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 34 saves in net. Sophomore forward Grace Outwater scored two goals in Saturday's win. First year forward Mikah Keller scored a goal and added two assists and senior forward Maddy Christian had two assists. DeSa made 26 saves in net.
 
Penn State enters the weekend first in the AHA averaging 4.41 goals per game and first allowing 1.31 goals per contest. The Nittany Lions are third converting 27-of-108 (.250 percent) of their power play chances and second killing off 95-of-111 (85.6%) of their penalties. Penn State is first in the league winning 1,034-of-1,1841 face offs (56.2%) and seventh averaging 9.81 blocked shots per game.  
 
Senior forward and member if the United States Olympic team, Tessa Janecke leads Penn State and the AHA with 40 points. The senior forward is second in the league with 19 goals and tied for fifth with 21 assists. Janecke is first in face-off winning percentage (.674) and tied for first with six power play goals. Outwater is second on the team and second in the league with 37 points. She leads the league with 23 goals and is second averaging 1.28 points per game. Christian is third on the team, fifth in the league with 32 points and third in the AHA with 17 goals.
 
Senior defender Kendall Butze leads the team with 39 blocked shots. Christian and sophomore defender Grace Tullock are tied for second on the team with 28 blocks apiece. Sophomore defender Taya MacDonald is fourth on the team with 26 blocked shots.
 
DeSa is 22-2-0 this season. She leads the AHA with a 1.26 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. She is eighth in the conference averaging 17.71 saves per game.
 
RIT VS. PENN STATE:
Penn State is 41-19-7 all-time against RIT. The Nittany Lions swept a pair of games in Rochester on Nov. 21-22. Junior defender Emma Pickering scored a pair of goals and junior Addie Alvarez had two assists in the 5-3 loss on Nov. 21. Senior forward Jaidan Fahrny scored two goals and Keranen had two assists in a 4-3 loss the following day.
