ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team fell at home to Union, 74-63, in a Liberty League contest, Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visitors opened the game on a 7-2 run and extended their lead to 16-7 midway through the first half.
- RIT cut the deficit to 26-18 after a three-pointer by junior guard Muhsin Muhammad at the 8:06 mark.
- Union closed the first half with a dunk by Jack Plesser to lead 38-30 at the break.
- Graduate student forward Josiah Turner scored six straight points early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 38-34.
- The Garnet Chargers responded with a 9-4 run, capped by a Matthew Garside three-pointer for a 43-36 lead with 3:29 remaining
- Turner hit a three-pointer with 3:15 left to make it 67-56, but Union held on with late free throws and a dunk by Scott Schmitt.
GAME NOTES
- Muhammad paced RIT with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including two three-pointers.
- Turner added 19 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Zac Ditzel chipped in nine points.
- RIT shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from three-point range.
- Both teams finished with 38 rebounds; RIT had five blocks, including two by Turner.
- RIT falls to 3-6 overall and drops to 1-2 in Liberty League play.
