ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors announced by the league, Monday.
First year
Laina Swartzwelder was named the Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week. On the men's side, junior
Luke Albanese was named the Men's Diver of the Week, and sophomore
John Elliot was named the Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Week.
Swartzwelder won the 500 and 1,000 Freestyle races in a dual meet against Rochester on Saturday. The newcomer swam 5:27.56 in the 500 and 11:06.71 in the 1,000. She also swam legs in the 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley relays that placed second.
Albanese helped RIT earn a 190-109 win over Rochester on Saturday by sweeping the diving events. The junior set a new program record at the 3m height, with a score of 385.20. He placed first in the 1m event with a score of 359.95.
Elliot won the 800m in a time of 1:56.43, which is the top time in the Liberty League, fourth in the AARTFC, and 19th in the NCAA at the Brockport Invitational, Saturday. He also ran the lead-off leg of the winning 4x400m relay with a regional qualifying time of 3:24.66, which is currently ranked 15th in the NCAA.
