Women's Hockey loses to Mercyhurst, 5-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Ireland Stein had a career-high two assists in the Tigers 5-3 loss to Mercyhurst, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Peyten Evans scored 26 seconds into the opening period to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead.
  • Junior forward Emma Pickering tied the score at 1-1 on her goal at 7:04 of the first period. She fired a wrist shot from the point into the top corner off assists from Stein and sophomore defender Madison Buziak.
  • Nuutinen scored 50 seconds into the second period to give Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead.
  • Sophomore forward Kailey Favro scored a power play goal at 6:50 of the second period off assists from Stein and junior forward Addie Alvarez to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Avery Bryk scored at 10:46 of the second to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead and Abby Poltras gave Mercyhurst a 4-2 lead on her goal at 19:26 of the period.
  • Kate Donegan gave Mercyhurst a 5-2 lead on her goal at 11:09 of the third period.
  • Sophomore forward Brac Kelley scored at 19:10 of the third to make it a 5-3 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Mercyhurst outshot RIT, 39-23.
  • RIT was 1-for-4 with the extra skater, and the Lakers were 1-for-5.
  • Senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 21 saves and sophomore Brenna McNamara made 13 saves in relief.
