Women's Hockey falls 2-1 to Mercyhurst in OT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team lost 2-1 in overtime to Mercyhurst, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sofia Nuutinen scored a power play goal at 7:46 of the first period to give Mercyhurst the lead.
  • Junior defender Emma Pickering tied the game at 1-1 on her goal at 14:20 of the first period off assists from first year forwards Cassandra Barnes and Kolbee Ashe. Pickering crashed the net on a RIT rush and tipped in a shot for her 11th goal of the season.
  • Sophomore goalie Brenna McNamara made 12 saves in a scoreless second period.
  • RIT sophomore forward Zoe Ziotas had a chance at 7:31 of the second saves by Mercyhurst goalie, Magdalena Luggin.
  • McNamara made 10 saves in a scoreless third period.
  • First year forward Kolbee Ashe had her shot with five minutes remaining in the third saved by Luggin.
  • Abby Poitras scored the game-winning goal at 1:39 of overtime to make it a 2-1 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Mercyhurst outshot RIT, 39-22.
  • RIT did not score a power play goal, while the Lakers were 1-for-2.
  • McNamara finished with a career-high 37 saves.
