Softball splits doubleheader at St. Lawrence, 6-5 6-0

CANTON, N.Y. – Senior outfielder Maddy Cook scored three runs and recorded three RBIs to help the RIT Softball team to a 6-5 win at St. Lawerence to split a doubleheader against the Saints, Saturday.
 
GAME 1 – RIT 6, St. Lawrence 5
  • Down 2-0 after one inning, senior Maddy Cook hit a solo shot over the left field fence to put the visiting Tigers on the board.
  • Sophomore Maria Minemier singled up the middle to bring in Cook to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning.
  • In the fifth, Cook drove in first-year Anna Cavotta with a single to center field, giving RIT a 3-2 lead.
  • St. Lawrence regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs for a 4-3 advantage.
  • After tying the game 4-4 in the seventh, senior Kristin Hino singled to allow Cook and senior Erin Ozminkowski to cross home plate.
  • The Saints' M. Juan scored off a single by Vivian Johnson to cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • RIT's defense held on to get the final two outs to pick up its first conference win of the season.
 
GAME 2 – St. Lawrence 6, RIT 0
  • St. Lawrence scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Caelen Jahnle crossed home plate off a single by Leah VerSchneider.
  • The Saints doubled the lead in the fifth with a run from Johnson.
  • In the sixth inning, St. Lawrence added four runs to ensure the win over the Tigers.
