Women's Hockey hosts No. 9 Penn State on Senior Weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's hockey team closes out the regular season with a pair of Atlantic Hockey America contests against No. 9 Penn State. Friday's game starts at 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's game faces off at 2:00 p.m.

SENIOR WEEKEND
RIT will honor its 11 seniors before Friday's game and prior to Saturday's game against Penn State. The Tigers will honor seniors Kylie Aquaro, Annie Burks, Jessie Burks, Jordyn Bear, Kyla Bear, Addie Carr, Sarah Coe, Bronwyn Khangsar, Bailey Kehl, Megan McCormick and Athena Vasdani.

Weekend Recap (RIT at Lindenwood)
RIT went 2-0 in a pair of Atlantic Hockey America games at Lindenwood, last weekend. The Tigers won 4-1 on Friday followed by a 4-3 overtime win, Saturday.
 
Sophomore defender Emma Pickering tallied a goal and an assist and first year forward Brac Kelley had two assists in Friday's win. Khangsar, Kyla Bear and first year forward Kailey Favro each scored a goal and Coe made 35 saves.
 
Kyla Bear scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime in Saturday's win. Aquaro and Jordyn Bear each scored a goal and Coe finished with 24 saves. 
 
Where They Stand (AHA)
RIT is fourth in the AHA standings with 26 points. The Tigers are six points behind third-place Syracuse and 17 points ahead of fifth-place Robert Morris. The top two teams in the standings at the end of the regular season receive a first-round bye in the Atlantic Hockey America Tournament. The third seed will host the sixth seed in a first-round game, while the fourth seed will host the fifth seed in the other first-round game.
 
Home To Start the Playoffs
RIT secured a home game for the first round of the Atlantic Hockey America playoffs. It will be the first playoff home game for the Tigers since the 2013-14 season.
 
Winning Ways
RIT's 15 wins is the most in a season since the Tigers won 15 games in 2014-15.
 
The Last Six Games…
RIT is 3-2-1 in its last six games, averaging 2.50 goals per game while allowing 2.00 goals per contest. The Tigers are 5-of-17 (29.4%) on the power play, killing off 17-of-20 penalties and have won 49.6% of their face offs. Kyla Bear (6g, 1a) has seven points in the last six games while Kelley has five points (1g, 4a). Pickering (2g, 2a) and Alvarez (0g, 4a) each have four points in their last six contests. Khangsar (1g, 2a), senior forward Athena Vasdani (1g, 2a) and sophomore forward Linda Rulle (0g, 3a) each have three points. Coe is 3-2-1 with a 1.97 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.

Coe enters the weekend second all-time in career saves (2,645), minutes played (4,972) and games played (88). She is 14 games shy of tying Terra Lanteigne for No. 1 (102 games), 811 minutes shy of tying Lanteigne (5,783 minutes) and 609 saves shy of tying Lanteigne for career saves (3,254). She is tied for tenth all-time with 17 career wins.
 
Junior goalie Sophia Bellina is eighth all-time with a .928 save percentage and saves (914) and 11h in games played (38), minutes played (1,910) and a career 2.23 goals-against average.
 
Top 100 Scorers
Five Tigers are ranked in the top 100 in all-time scoring. Aquaro is tied for 24th all-time in scoring with 75 points (24g, 51a). Kyla Bear is tied for 54th (14g, 37a) with 51 points and Alvarez (14g, 36a) is 57th with 50 points. Vasdani is tied for 66th with 42 points (17g, 25a) and Pickering is tied for 97th with 32 points (16g, 16a).
 
Career Milestones
Kehl is three blocks shy of 170 for her career and Vasdani if three goals shy of 20 and five assists shy of 30. Kyla Bear (14g, 37a) is three assists shy of 40 and one goal shy of 15 for her career. Alvarez is one goal shy of 15 and four assists short of 40 for her career. Aquaro is one goal shy of 25 and four assist short of 55. Graduate student Mia Tsilemos needs one block to reach 280 for her career.
 
Century Mark
Ten Tigers have surpassed the 100 games-played plateau. Tsilemos (145), graduate student forward Nicole Ness (140), McCormick (132), Vasdani (131), Kyla Bear (129), senior defensewoman Jessie Burks (127), Aquaro (125), Kehl (123), Carr (107) and Jordyn Bear (107).
 
About RIT
RIT enters the weekend averaging 2.7 goals per game while allowing 2.5 goals per contest. The Tigers are 30-for-110 (27.3 %) on the power play and 85-for-102 (83.3%) killing off penalties. RIT is winning 48.4% of its face offs and have blocked 488 shots.
 
Nine Tigers have at tallied at least 10 points, including five with 20 or more points through 32 games. Alvarez leads RIT with 30 points, including a team-best 24 assists. It is the most points since Marissa Maugeri scored 28 points in 2013-14. Aquaro is second on the team with 26 points on nine goals and 17 assists and Kelley is third with 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists. AHA Rankings
RIT leads Atlantic Hockey America in power play percentage (27.3%) and is second in penalty killing percentage (83.3%). The Tigers are third in goals per game (2.69), points per game (6.88), assists (134), assists per game (4.19), goals allowed per game (2.47) and blocked shots per game (15.25).
 
Alvarez is second in the league in assists (24) and assists per game (0.77) and fourth in points (30) and points per game (0.97). Aquaro is eighth in the league in points (26) and points per game (0.81). She is sixth in the league in assists (17) and tied for fourth with five power play goals.
 
Pickering is tied for seventh in the league in goals (11), including a league-best eight power play tallies and tenth in blocked shots (57). Kyla Bear is 11th in blocked shots (50). Kelley is fifth winning 57.2% of her face offs and ninth with 222 face-off wins. Jordyn Bear is eighth in the league with 240 face-off wins, while Tsilemos is third with 69 blocked shots. McCormick is tenth winning 49.4 percent of her draws.

RIT is fourth in Division I with 30 power play goals and sixth converting 27.3 percent of its power play chances. The Tigers are tied for 12th in goals (86), 13th in assists (132), 15th in scoring offense (2.69) and tied for 17th penalty-killing percentage (83.3%). Alvarez is 13th nationally averaging 0.77 assists per game and Pickering is tied for second with eight power play goals and Aquaro is tied for 17th with five power play tallies.
 
About Penn State
Penn State went 1-1 against Mercyhurst in a pair of Atlantic Hockey America games last weekend. The Nittany Lions won 4-3 in overtime on Friday and lost 3-2 the following day. Junior forward Maddy Christian had a goal and an assist in Friday's win. Graduate student defender Lyndie Lobdell scored the game-winner in overtime and junior goalie Katie DeSa made 13 saves in goal. Christian and junior forward Tessa Janecke each scored in Saturday's loss and DeSa finished with 16 saves.
 
Lindenwood leads Atlantic Hockey America averaging 3.66 goals per game and first allowing 1.56 goals per contest. The Nittany Lions are fourth in the league converting 19.0 percent of their power-play chances and first killing off 84.9 percent of their opponent's power plays.
 
Janecke leads the league in points (47), goals (21) and assists (26). She leads the league winning 68.7 percent of her face offs and is tied for second with six power play goals. Junior forward Katelyn Roberts is second on the team and third in the AHA with 32 points. She is third in the league in assists (22) and tied for ninth in goals (10). Christian is third on the team and fifth in the league with 29 points. She is second in the AHA with 18 goals and tied for second in the conference with six power play goals. First year forward Grace Outwater is tied for third in the league with 15 goals.
 
DeSa is first in the league with a 1.42 goals against average a .934 save percentage and is seventh in the conference averaging 18.93 saves per game.
 
RIT vs. Penn State
Penn State is 37-19-7 all time against RIT. The Nittany Lions won a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center on Jan. 10-11 winning 3-0 and 3-2. Kelley and Favro each scored in Saturday's loss.
 
Ranked Opponents
RIT plays four teams ranked in this week's USCHO Division I Women's Poll. The Tigers are 1-4-1 splitting a pair of games against No. 6 Colgate (Oct. 11-12) and went 0-1-1 versus No. 11 St. Lawrence (Oct. 25-26). The Tigers lost 5-2 at No. 7 Cornell (Nov. 26) and 5-1 (Dec. 31). RIT dropped a pair of games at No. 8 Penn State (Jan. 10-11) but host the Nittany Lions on Feb. 14-15 to close out the regular season.
