Women's Hockey ties Mercyhurst 1-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Athena Vasdani scored in the Tigers 1-1 tie against Mercyhurst in Atlantic Hockey America action, Saturday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior goalie Sarah Coe made four saves in a scoreless first period.
  • RIT had seven shots on goal in the opening frame, including a short-handed chance by sophomore forward Linda Rulle at 15:47 and another by junior forward Jaidan Fahrny at 17:08.
  • Coe made a save on a shot from Thea Johansson inside the first 15 seconds of the second period to keep it a scoreless game.
  • Rulle and sophomore Addie Alvarez had their chances at 13:50 of the period turned aside by Mercyhurst goalie, Jorden Mattison.
  • First year forward Ireland Stein had her back-handed shot saved at 16:08 and Coe made a save on a shot from Julia Schalin with 45 seconds remaining in the period to keep the game scoreless.
  • Vasdani scored at 11:26 of the third period to give RIT a 1-0 lead. Graduate student defender Mia Tsilemos fired a shot from the point. Senior forward Jordyn Bear tipped the puck to Vasdani and she steered it past Mattison to give the Tigers the lead.
  • Thea Johansson tied the game at 1-1 on her power play goal at 17:33 of the third.
  • Each team had three shots on goal in a scoreless overtime.
  • Sydney Peterson scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the Lakers the extra point.

  • Mercyhurst outshot RIT 28-25
  • The Tigers went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Lakers were 1-for-6
  • Coe made 27 saves in net
