MEADVILLE, Pa. – The RIT women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Chatham, 64-40, in a neutral-site matchup at Allegheny's Women Leaders Tip Off Tournament, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT led 17-14 after the first quarter, which was fueled by a three-pointer from junior guard Maddy Ramsgard with 1:34 on the clock.
- The Tigers extended their lead to 26-22 with a little more than two minutes remaining in the half before Chatham closed the half with a fast-break layup to cut the deficit to four.
- Chatham surged ahead in the third quarter, outscoring RIT 17-3 to take a 39-29 lead.
- The Cougars sealed the win with a dominant fourth quarter, scoring 25 points and holding RIT to just 11.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore guard Caroline Henderson led RIT with nine points and eight rebounds.
- Junior forward Faye Kaplinski also scored nine points and added two blocks.
- RIT shot 25.9percent from the field (15-of-58) and committed 21 turnovers.
- Defensively, the Tigers recorded five blocks and six steals.
- RIT outrebounded the Cougars 42-to-41.
