VESTAL, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season with a 66-56 exhibition loss to Division I opponents Binghamton, Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Binghamton jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, fueled by layups from Bryson Wilson and Wes Peterson.
• RIT responded with a layup from graduate student forward Josiah Turner to cut the deficit to 8-2.
• The Bearcats extended their lead to 19-4 with back-to-back fast-break baskets from West Peterson and Zyier Beverly.
• The Tigers closed the first half with a three-pointer by Brown and a layup with seven seconds remaining from junior guard Zac Ditzel to trail 34-27 at halftime.
• In the second half, RIT pulled within four points (36-32) after a layup by junior forward Nolan Smith and a three-pointer by Ditzel.
• Binghamton led by 12 points (64-52) with 1:13 remaining when Jeremiah Quigley made a layup.  
• RIT stayed within striking distance by converting a pair of free throws from first-year forward Nigel Pierman, but Binghamton sealed the win with a dunk by Beverly in the final minute.

 
GAME NOTES

• Turner led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds as sophomore guard Muhsin Muhammad added 11 points off the bench.
• Ditzel contributed nine points and six rebounds while Brown chipped in six points for the Tigers.
• RIT shot 39.3% from the field (22-of-56) and 33.3% from three-point range (4-of-12).
• The Tigers were outrebounded 37-to-32 and committed 11 turnovers.
• Binghamton shot 43.1% from the field and made 16-of-25 free throws.
• Beverly led Binghamton with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

RIT is back in action next Tuesday (Nov.  11) with a road game at Nazareth scheduled for 7 p.m.
