Women's Hockey loses 5-3 against No. 6 Penn State

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior defender Emma Pickering scored two goals in the Tigers 5-3 loss to No. 6 Penn State, Friday. Junior forwards Addie Alvarez and Linda Rulle each had two assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Abby Stonehouse scored 9:11 into the first period to give Penn State the lead.
  • Leah Stecker scored a power play goal at 11:06 of the opening frame to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead.
  • Pickering scored her first power play goal of the period at 15:38 to cut the Penn State lead to 2-1.
  • She tallied her second goal of the opening period at 16:13 to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Maddy Christian tallied a short-handed goal at 16:57 to give Penn State a 3-2 lead and Mya Vaslet scored a short-handed goal at 17:48 to increase the Nittany Lions' lead to 4-2.
  • Tessa Janecke scored at 8:33 of the second period to give Penn State a 5-2 lead.
  • Sophomore forward Kailey Favro had a chance early in the third period turned aside by Penn State goalie Katie DeSa.
  • First year forward Tilli Keranen scored a power play goal at 14:52 of the third period to make it a 5-3 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Penn State outshot RIT, 47-20.
  • RIT was 3-for-4 with the extra skater, and the Nittany Lions were 1-for-3.
  • Senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 42 saves for RIT.
  • RIT is the second team this season to score three goals against Penn State (Vermont).
