ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team dropped a close contest to Geneseo, 80-76, Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened the game with a 13-5 run, capped by a three-pointer from junior guard Zac Ditzel at 14:58 of the first half.
- Sophomore guard Muhsin Muhammad hit back-to-back threes midway through the first half to give RIT a 31-25 lead.
- Geneseo responded with a 10-2 run late in the first half to tie the game at 37-37.
- RIT led 44-40 at halftime after a layup by Muhammad with 40 seconds remaining.
- Coming out of the break, the visiting Knights took control with a 9-2 run early in the second half, turning a 44-43 deficit into a 52-46 lead.
- With 1:05 remaining, Geneseo's Jaiyden Jones scored a layup to give the Knights a 76-71 lead.
- Muhammad answered with a three-pointer with 53 seconds remaining on the clock to cut the deficit to 76-74.
- The Knights' Trevor Hofer made four free throws in the final 30 seconds, including two with 11 seconds left to seal the 80-76 win for Geneseo.
GAME NOTES
- Muhammad paced the Tigers with 26 points, including four three-pointers and four steals.
- Ditzel added 14 points, hitting four three-pointers.
- Geneseo's Robert Pericolosi posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
- RIT went 9-of-13 from three-point range in the first half.
- The game featured five ties and 12 lead changes.
- As a team, RIT shot 44.8 percent from the field (26-of-58) and 52.4 percent from three (11-of-21).
- RIT's bench contributed 45 points.
- The loss drops the Tigers to 0-2 on the season.
