Women's Hockey falls 1-0 at Mercyhurst

ERIE, PA – RIT senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 36 saves in the Tigers to a 1-0 loss at Mercyhurst, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mercyhurst's Regina Metzler poked in a loose puck in front of RIT's net at 16:27 of the first period to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
  • RIT fired seven shots on net in the opening frame including three from first year forward Cassie Barnes.
  • RIT fired 12 shots on goal in a scoreless second period.
  • Sophomore forward Brac Kelley intercepted a pass inside the Mercyhurst zone and fired a shot that Laker's goalkeeper Magdalena Luggin turned aside.
  • Senior forward Jaidan Fahrny had a shot inside the final minute of the second period saved by Luggin.
  • Junior forwards Linda Rulle and Addie Alvarez had a two-on-one short-handed chance early in the third period. Rulle's wrist shot from the slot was stopped by Luggin.
  • Luggina made a save on first year Heron Rohweder's shot with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Mercyhurst outshot RIT, 38-24.
  • RIT was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
  • The Tigers won 35-of-32 face offs, including 15 from Fahrny.
