Men’s Basketball falls at home to Clarkson, 70-59

ROCHESTER N.Y. - The RIT men's basketball team fell at home to Clarkson, 70-59, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams went back and forth to start the first half, with each team staying within five points of each other. Clarkson began to pull away after a 9-0 run with 13:26 left in the half.
  • Senior forward Josiah Turner rallied the Tigers with back-to-back three-pointers to lead a 17-5 run, putting RIT up by four with 8:18 on the clock. RIT maintained their four-point lead for the remainder of the half, heading into the locker room leading 38-34.
  • The Tigers continued to match Clarkson offensively, maintaining a steady lead until the Golden Knights went on a 10-0 busrt to put them up 55-48 with 10:11 left to play.
  • Clarkson continued to take control of the game late in the second half, hitting key free throws to go into the final three minutes leading 65-56.
  • Cold shooting down the stretch doomed RIT, as Clarkson's sophomore guard Steve DeRegis a three-point shot in the final minute to seal the game for the visitors.  
 
GAME NOTES
  • Senior forward Josiah Turner led the team with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists. His three made shots from beyond the arc is a season high.
  • Sophomore guard Zac Ditzel had eight points and five rebounds.
  • Senior guard Chase Dickens had nine points with three three-pointers.
  • The setback puts the Tigers at 6-9 overall and while slipping to 2-6 in the Liberty League.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT is home tomorrow (Jan. 25) when they square off against St. Lawrence at 4:00 PM.
