GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Faye Kalplinksi scored 15 points to lead the RIT women's basketball team to a 63-55 road win over William Smith, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After finishing the first 10 minutes tied at 16, the Herons used an 11-2 run to take six-point lead at the 5:21 mark in the second quarter.
- Trailing by four at the break, RIT came to life in the third, outscoring William Smith 21-9 in the quarter. Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard hit a pull-up jumper with 5:26 on the clock to give the team the lead, 40-39.
- Later in the quarter, Kaplinski extended the lead by making several free-throws and a layup to lift RIT to a nine-point advantage.
- In the fourth quarter, RIT managed to hold on the lead by keeping the Herons away from the free-throw line as well as out-rebounding them 14 to 5.
GAME NOTES
- Kaplinski hit 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-6 at the free-throw line. The sophomore is averaging an even 9.0 points per game through 10 games this season.
- First-year guard Caroline Henderson added 14 points, 12 of which coming from beyond the arc.
- Ramsgard recorded a double-double with 12 points to go along with a season-high 10 rebounds.
- William Smith's Amelia McCulley led all scorers with 22 points.
- The win lifts the Tigers to 5-5 overall as the team remains undefeated in Liberty League action through three games.
