Women's Volleyball defeats host St. Lawrence, 3-0; comes back for 3-2 win over Plattsburgh

CANTON, N.Y. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team swept host St. Lawrence, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20) and came back to defeat Plattsburgh, 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9), Saturday, for its ninth-consecutive win.
 
RIT 3, ST. LAWRENCE 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20)
  • Sophomore outside hitter Mia Gerber totaled a match-high 10 kills while sophomore outside hitter Macie Jolliffe added seven kills, nine digs and three service aces. Senior outside hitter Samantha Cox added nine kills while graduate student libero Hailey Blixt was credited with a match-high 11 digs as the Tigers improved to 2-0 in Liberty League action.
  • Tied, 3-3, in the first set, RIT put together an 8-2 run for an 11-5 lead. The Saints responded with a 7-1 run to knot the score, 12-12, but the Tigers bounced back with a 7-2 run to retake a 19-14 lead. St. Lawrence got back within two, 21-19, but the Tigers scored four of the final seven points to take the opener.
  • SLU led, 5-3, early in the second, but RIT scored five-straight points for an 8-5 lead. The Saints came back within one, 10-9, but the Tigers used a 9-4 push to build a 19-13 lead. The Tigers later scored six of the final eight points to close the set and a 2-0 lead.
  • St. Lawrence built a 10-6 lead in the third, but RIT responded with five-straight points to start a 10-3 run for a 16-13 lead. The Saints tied the score, 16-16, but the Tigers put together a 5-1 run for a 21-17 lead before scoring four of the final five points to complete the sweep. 
RIT 3, PLATTSBURGH 2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9)
  • Senior outside hitter Samantha Cox logged a team-high 16 kills on 30 swings with only one error for a .500 attack percentage. Gerber logged 14 kills while Jolliffe added nine kills and 11 digs and Blixt chipped in a team-best 16 digs.
  • RIT fell behind, 6-1, to start the first set, but rebounded with a 6-1 run to knot the score, 7-7. Plattsburgh then scored seven-consecutive points to start an 8-1 run for a 15-8 lead. The Tigers got within three, 17-14, but Plattsburgh led by as many as seven, 22-15, down the stretch to take the opener.
  • RIT led, 11-8, to start the second, but Plattsburgh put together a 10-4 run to build an 18-15 lead. The Tigers came back to tie the score, 21-21, but the Cardinals won four of the final five points for a 2-0 lead.
  • Leading, 10-8, in the third, the Tigers put together an 8-2 run for an 18-10 lead before Plattsburgh scored four-straight to pull back within four. RIT won six of the next seven points for a 24-15 lead en route to the victory.
  • In fourth, RIT broke a 6-6 tie with a 5-1 surge for an 11-7 lead, but Plattsburgh rode a 6-1 run to a 13-12 advantage. The Tigers scored five in a row before the Cardinals notched three to pull back within one, 17-16, but RIT scored six-consecutive points to start a 7-1 run for a 24-17 lead it would not let go of to force a deciding fifth.
  • RIT broke a 4-4 tie with a 4-1 run to lead, 8-5. Plattsburgh came back within two, 10-8, but the Tigers won five of the final six points to complete the comeback. 
MATCH NOTES
  • RIT's nine-match winning-streak is the longest since a 15-0 stretch of the 2021 season.
  • The Tigers are 5-1 in five-set matches this fall, coming back to win three times after dropping the first two sets.
