Women's Hockey beats Assumption 3-0 in season opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Addie Alvarez scored a career-high two goals to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 win over Assumption in Friday's season opener.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT fired 15 shots on target and junior goalie Sophia Bellina made three saves in a scoreless first period.
  • Alvarez scored at 4:19 of the second to give RIT the lead. First-year Kailey Favro fired a shot that Assumption netminder Carissa Mudrak saved. The rebound came to Alvarez who fired a shot into the low corner for her first goal of the season.
  • Alvarez tallied her second goal of the period at 13:01 to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Favro and senior defensewoman Jessie Burks had the assists on the play.
  • First-year forward Ireland Stein scored her first collegiate goal at 3:19 of the third period to increase RIT's lead to 3-0. Senior defensewoman Mia Tsilemos and senior forward Kylie Aquaro each had an assist.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT outshot Assumption 46-11.
  • Bellina made 11 saves in net to record her second career shut out.
  • The Tigers were 1-for-5 with the extra skater and held the Greyhounds to 0-for-1 on the power play.
  • Aquaro recorded her 50th career point
