ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore outside hitter
Mia Gerber totaled a match-high 14 kills on a career-high .524 attacking to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of host Nazareth, Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT broke open the first set with a 10-1 run for a 14-3 lead, but the Golden Flyers responded with a 10-3 surge to pull back within three, 16-13. The Tigers scored three-straight points to retake a six-point edge, 19-13, and later came through on a third set point for the five-point decision.
- RIT clung to an early 8-7 lead before Nazareth moved ahead, 12-9, after a 5-1 run. The Tigers moved back into the lead, 15-13, following a 6-1 run of their own, but the Golden Flyers answered with three-straight points for a 16-15 lead. The visitors pushed back ahead for good following an 8-2 run for a 23-18 lead they would not relinquish.
- Tied, 13-13, in the third, the Tigers put together a 9-0 run for a 22-13 lead that proved insurmountable.
MATCH NOTES
- RIT extended a six-match winning streak with the victory.
- Graduate-student setter Sydney Neff was credited with 25 assists and five digs.
- Classmate libero Hailey Blixt led the way with nine digs.
