Baseball falls to Ithaca, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT graduate pitcher Matthew Chase pitched eight and one-third innings, striking out eight batters as the Tigers fell to Ithaca, 3-1, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After four scoreless innings, the Tigers got on board after junior center fielder Sam Kulp hit a solo homer over the left field wall, putting RIT up 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth
  • After Chase only allowed three hits in the first seven innings, the Bombers tied the game at one in the top of the eighth on an RBI single to left field
  • In the top of the ninth, Ithaca was able to get two men on base before taking a 2-1 lead after the base runner on third scored on a fielding error by the Tiger defense. Still with two men on base, the Bombers scored their third run on an RBI single to left field.
  • Sophomore second baseman Jarin Moses led off for RIT in the bottom of the ninth and was able to get on base, but was left stranded on second after the next three batters recorded outs
GAME NOTES
  • Chase only allowed five hits in his eight and one-third inning outing
  • Kulp's home run was his second of the season
  • Graduate student relief pitcher Eric Sipling only allowed one hit and walked one batter

The Tigers return to action tomorrow, hosting Ithaca in a doubleheader with game one scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
