ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Clarkson; 20-5 (7 inn.), 6-5 (11 inn.), Saturday.
GAME ONE – RIT 20, Clarkson 5 (7 inn.)
Sophomore first baseman
Trent Rapp goes 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI as the Tigers defeat Clarkson, 20-5 (7 inn.) in game one of a Saturday doubleheader.
- Clarkson got on the board first with an RBI single and an RBI double in the first inning, taking an early 2-0 lead
- The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first after Rapp hit a 3-run homer over the right field wall
- In the second, junior right fielder Adam Marsh earned 2 RBI on a single, increasing RIT's lead to three runs
- The Tigers scored five runs in the third on RBIs from senior utilityman John Bagley, graduate student catcher Gil Merod, junior center fielder Sam Kulp, junior shortstop Randy Dodig and Marsh
- RIT increased the lead to 18 after scoring 10 runs in the fourth. Merod earned a walk with the bases loaded, senior designated hitter Kyle Poorman scored on a wild pitch, Marsh and sophomore second baseman Jarin Moses both hit RBI singles that scored two runners each, while Rapp and sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker both hit 2-run homers
- The Golden Knights scored one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh
- RIT won in seven innings due to the 10-run rule
GAME TWO – RIT 6, Clarkson 5 (11 inn.)
Senior utiliyman
John Bagley goes 3-for-5 with a team-high 3 RBI and sophomore second baseman
Jarin Moses earned a walk-off single as the Tigers beat Clarkson, 6-5 (11 inn.) in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
- Clarkson took an early 3-0 lead due to an RBI single and a RBI double that scored two, in the first
- RIT scored its first run in the third after the Golden Knights' pitcher balked while sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker was on third base
- After five scoreless innings from senior pitcher John Arnold, Clarkson scored two runs in the sixth on an 2 RBI single
- With the bases loaded, Bagley doubled to left field and scored all three base runners, putting the Tigers within one. Four batters later, junior shortstop Randy Dodig grounded out to second, but was able to score first-year designated hitter Ben Fitzgerald, tying the game at five in the bottom of the sixth
- After a scoreless seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth inning, Dodig and junior right fielder Adam Marsh each hit a single in the bottom of the 11th. Dodig advanced to third on a wild pitch and then Moses singled to right field, scoring Dodig and winning the game for the Tigers
