Baseball wins fourth in a row, beats Clarkson 6-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker, senior designated hitter Kyle Poorman and graduate student catcher Gil Merod all go 2-for-4 as the Tigers beat Clarkson, 6-1, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers earned took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after junior center fielder Adam Marsh earned a walk with the bases loaded
  • In the third, sophomore first baseman Trent Rapp hit a solo homer over the right field wall, increasing RIT's lead to two
  • After three scoreless innings from graduate pitcher Matthew Chase, Clarkson got on board in the fourth on an RBI single
  • The Tigers tacked on one run off of an RBI single to left center from senior utilityman John Bagley in the fifth. Three batters later, sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig earned a walk with the bases loaded and then Bagley scored from third on a wild pitch, putting RIT ahead by four runs
  • In the eighth, Slaymaker hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Marsh and gave the Tigers a 6-1 advantage
  • Graduate student pitcher Eric Sipling, who came in to relieve Chase in the seventh inning, was able to shut out the Golden Knights in the top of the ninth, earning the save for the Tigers
GAME NOTES
  • Chase only allowed four hits one walk in his six inning outing
  • Rapp is now tied for first in the league with four home runs on the season
  • Sipling allowed no hits or runs in his three inning outing and earned his first save of the season
  • Poorman scored a team-high two runs

The Tigers host Clarkson for a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 30) with game one starting at 12:00 p.m.
