Jake Erickson and junior attack
Clifford Gaston each tallied six points to lead the No. 2 Tigers to a 17-11 win over St. John Fisher, Wednesday.
Erickson tallied three goals and three assists, while Gaston finished with five goals and an assist. Graduate student attack
Luke Pilcher tallied four goals, while senior midfielder
Ian Dinga had two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Fisher's Colin Blakeslee scored 39 seconds into the game to give the Cardinals the lead.
- Pilcher and Erickson scored back-to-back goals, taking a 2-1 lead on Erickson's goal with 11:28 remaining in the quarter.
- Matthew Kemmis tied the game at 2-2 on his goal, but Pilcher scored two of the Tigers three straight goals, and Erickson scored his second of the quarter with 1:20 remaining to give RIT a 5-2 lead.
- Erickson scored early in the second quarter followed by a goal from Gaston with 13:30 remaining to increase the Tiger's lead to 7-2.
- Kemmis scored to cut the lead to 7-3 before Pilcher scored off an assist from senior Seth Grottenthaler to give RIT an 8-3 lead.
- Lane Edinger scored off an assist from Kemmis with 5:12 remaining to cut the deficit to 8-4, but Gaston tallied a man-up goal with 3:48 remaining to give RIT a 9-4 lead.
- Sean Donaldson scored with 10 seconds to play in the opening half to cut RIT's lead to 9-5 at the break.
- RIT scored three straight goals in the third quarter, extending its lead to 12-6 on Grottenthaler's goal with 8:08 to play in the quarter.
- Donaldson scored his second of the game with 4:13 to play in the third to make it 12-7 and Gaston scored off a feed from Erickson to give RIT a 13-7 lead.
- Gaston scored his fifth goal of the game early in the fourth quarter to increase the Tiger's lead to 14-7.
- Ethan Kessering scored two of Fisher's four straight goals in the fourth, cutting RIT's lead to 15-11 on his goal with 4:53 to play.
- Dinga and senior midfielder Cameron Gebhardt scored in the final minutes to make it a 17-11 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot St. John Fisher, 45-36.
- Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made nine saves to improve to 8-0 on the season.
- Sophomore face-off specialist Ethan Spillane won a career-high 13 face-offs and grabbed a career-best nine ground balls.
- Dinga recorded a career-high three points.
- RIT went 2-for-5 on man-up and was 18-of-20 on clearing attempts.
