Softball falls 7-1 to MCLA, 3-1 to St. Joseph in Florida

NAPLES, Fla. – The RIT Softball team lost twice on Thursday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Florida, falling 7-1 to Mass. College of Liberal Arts and 3-1 to the University of St. Joseph.
 
GAME 1 – MCLA 7, RIT 1
  • MCLA jumped out a 3-0 lead after two innings, before RIT scored a run in the top of the third. Junior Bailey Kehl drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a MCLA error on a ball hit by senior Elise Guth. Junior Lilian Reinstra followed with a single to left to plate Kehl.
  • The Trailblazers responded with runs in the bottom of the third and the fourth for a four-run lead and plated two more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
  • Junior Morgan Best took the complete game loss, allowing six hits and five earned runs while striking out two. 
GAME 2 – ST. JOSEPH 3, RIT 1
  • St. Joseph scored twice in the top of the second inning, before the Tigers strung together three hits for a run in the bottom of the third. First-year Maria Minemier knocked a two-out double to right center before junior Erin Ozminkowski followed with an infield single. Junior Maddy Cook singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Minemier from third.
  • The Blue Jays plated an insurance run in the top of the fifth to secure the win.
  • Junior starter Lexi Pieri allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three in four innings of work. Sophomore Jessica Majot threw the final three innings, yielding an unearned run on two hits while striking out four.
