Baseball comes up short in extra innings against No. 13 Salve Regina, losing 6-5

AUBURNDALE, F.L. – RIT senior catcher Kyle Poorman goes 2-for-4 with 1 RBI as the Tigers lose to No. 13 Salve Regina, 6-5 in extra innings during the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A sacrifice fly to left field from sophomore second basemen Jarin Moses, scored junior shortstop Randy Dodig and put the Tigers in front 1-0 in the first
  • In the second inning, junior center fielder Sam Kulp earned an RBI single, scoring first-year right fielder Mikey Zacher, increasing the Tigers' lead to two
  • RIT scored three runs in the third off an RBI triple from sophomore pitcher Trent Rapp, an RBI single down the left field line from senior catcher Kyle Poorman, followed by a failed pick-off attempt to first base that allowed Poorman to score
  • After two scoreless innings from Rapp, Salve Regina scored their first run on an RBI single. Sophomore relief pitcher Jack Luensmann came to the mound in the third and the Seahawks scored two more runs, cutting the Tigers' lead to two
  • A two-run homer in the fourth from the Seahawks tied the game at five
  • Fifth-year pitcher Peter Bossinas came to the mound in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings. The score remained 5-5 after nine innings
  • After the Tigers left one on base in the top of the tenth, Salve Regina was able to get one runner on base and scored the winning run on a single to left center
GAME NOTES
  • RIT had a total of six runners left on base, compared to Salve Regina's nine
  • Luensmann led the pitchers with five strikeouts
  • Moses earned his 11th RBI of the season, a team-high
