Baseball loses final three games of RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

AUBURNDALE, F.L. – The RIT baseball finished the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational 0-3 losing to Loras, 9-4 and Gwynedd Mercy 6-4 on Friday, before falling to Muhlenberg 10-3, Saturday.
 
GAME ONE – Loras 9, RIT 4
Junior right fielder Adam Marsh goes for a team-best 3-for-5 as the Tigers lose to Loras, 9-4 on Friday.
  • Loras takes a 5-0 lead after scoring five runs in the third inning
  • First-year Mikey Zacher put the Tigers on the board after hitting an RBI single to left field in the fourth inning
  • The Duhawks score three more runs during the fifth and sixth innings, taking a 8-1 lead
  • In the seventh, Zacher scores off of an RBI single from junior shortstop Randy Dodig, cutting Loras' lead to six
  • Dodig earned a walk with the bases loaded in the eighth, sophomore designated hitter Trent Rapp scored the Tigers' third run, cutting the deficit to five
  • The Duhawks score one run in the ninth on a line drive to left field
  • Senior catcher Kyle Poorman reaches first on a fielding error and Marsh scores in the ninth. The Tigers leave one on base and Loras earns a 9-4 victory
GAME TWO – Gwynedd Mercy 6, RIT 4
Junior shortstop Randy Dodig goes 1-for-3 with a team-high 2 RBI as the Tigers come up short against Gwynedd Mercy.
  • Sophomore designated hitter Trent Rapp earned an RBI double, scoring junior right fielder Adam Marsh and giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning
  • Graduate student pitcher Eric Sipling threw three scoreless innings, before Gwynedd Mercy scored two runs and took a one run lead in the fourth
  • Graduate student catcher Gil Merod and Dodig hit two sacrifice flies that scored two baserunners in the sixth, putting RIT back in front 3-2
  • The Griffins go on to score four runs in the sixth, taking a 6-3 lead
  • Dodig hit an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Merod and cutting the deficit to two runs
  • Sophomore pitcher Eric Sipling pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the eighth, but the Tigers were unable to score in the ninth
GAME THREE – Muhlenberg 10, RIT 3
Junior shortstop Randy Dodig goes for a team-best 2-for-3 as the Tigers fall to Muhlenberg, 10-3.
  • After three scoreless innings from starting graduate pitcher Alex Slotter, got on the board with an RBI single in the fourth. Fifth-year pitcher Peter Bossinas came to the mound for Slotter, before the Mules scored three more runs, taking a 4-0 lead
  • First-year third baseman Ben Fitzgerald gave the Tigers their first run in the sixth inning after hitting an RBI single to center field that scored sophomore designated hitter Trent Rapp, cutting Muhlenberg's lead to three
  • The Mules scored four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, taking a 10-1 lead over the Tigers
  • Sophomore infielder Kyle McNulty came in to pinch hit for Rapp in the bottom of the ninth and earned a walk with the bases loaded, cutting Muhlenberg's lead to eight. The next batter, sophomore second baseman Charlie Slaymaker was hit by a pitch, advancing to first and scoring first-year infielder Dewey Rautzhan. The Tigers left three men on base and the Mules earned a 10-3 win.
