ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior
Josh Harkless won the 285 lb. division to help the Tigers to a third-place finish at the 58th RIT Invitational, Saturday.
Harkless defeated William VanVleet (Wesleyan) with a fall 19 seconds into his opening match. He pinned Zach Sulkis (Norwich) 29 seconds into his second bout, before pinning Abraham Keep (Norwich) at 3:16 into his quarterfinal match. Harkless was a 15-1 winner over Jackson Burns (St. John Fisher) in the semifinals and pinned Mason Sprinkel (Norwich) at 3:40 in the championship bout.
Senior
Michael Glynn III placed second at 149 lb. He pinned Joshua Lister (Norwich) in his opening match and won by fall over Spencer Maja (Brockport) in his second-round bout. He defeated Torin Bishop (St. John Fisher) with an 18-3 technical fall in the quarterfinals and pinned Caleb Seyfried (Williams) at 5:43 in the semifinals. Glynn lost 16-5 to Avery Leonard (Oneonta) in the championship match.
First year
Jack Lamson placed fourth at 165 lb. After a first-round bye, Lamson defeated Teddy Tonna (Norwich) with a fall in his first match. He was an 8-5 winner over Otto Davidson (St. John Fisher) in his second match and was an 11-0 winner over Matthew Melchior (Penn State Behrend) in the quarterfinals. Lamson lost to CJ Christopher Shea (Wesleyan) in the semifinals but came back to beat Jeremy Devine (St. John Fisher), 15-0 in the consolation semifinals. Lamson lost to Fisher Stites (Williams) 11-8 in the third-place match.
Sophomore
Josh Lanka placed fifth at 285 lb. and junior
Dara Heydarpour (149 lb.), first year
Max Watson (157 lb.) sophomore
Tyler Balent (174 lb.) and
Nick Smith (197 lb.) placed sixth.
