Women's Hockey beats Union 4-3 in OT

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Addie Alvarez scored the game-winner in overtime to lead the Tigers to a 4-3 win at Union, Saturday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Union's Maddie Leaney scored six minutes into the first period to give the Garnet Chargers the lead.
  • RIT fired 11 shots on net in the opening frame, including two from senior defensewoman Jordyn Bear midway through the period.
  • The Tigers scored three goals in the second period to take a 3-2 after 40 minutes.
  • Graduate student forward Nicole Ness tied the game at 1-1 on her goal at 8:10, scoring on a one-timer from the face-off dot off an assist from Bear.
  • Jill Willis scored at 14:12 of the frame to give Union a 2-1 lead.
  • Senior forward Kylie Aquaro scored at 17:24 on a loose puck in front of the Union net to tie the score at 2-2 and sophomore defensewoman Emma Pickering scored on a wrist-shot from the slot at 18:09 to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.
  • Stephanie Bourque knotted the game at 3-3 on her goal 2:51 into the third period.
  • RIT had four quality shots inside the final minute of regulation. Senior Bronwyn Khangsar had two shots, while senior forward Athena Vasdani and sophomore forward Linda Rulle each had chances inside the final 15 seconds.
  • Rulle had a shot from the slot with seven seconds remaining turned aside by Union goalkeeper Sophie Matsoukas.
  • In overtime, Pickering broke into the Union zone and found Alvarez with the pass. She fired a wrist- shot from the face off dot into the top corner to give the Tigers the win.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT outshot Union 42-29.
  • Senior goalie Sarah Coe made 26 saves in net to earn the win.
  • Pickering finished with a goal and an assist.
