Women's Hockey loses 5-1 to No. 7 Colgate

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore defender Emma Pickering scored a goal in the Tigers 5-1 loss to No. 7 Colgate in non-conference action, Friday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Avery Pickering scored at 11:52 of the first period to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead, and Kristyna Kaltounkova gave Colgate a 2-0 lead on her goal at 15:45. 
  • Senior forward Kylie Aquaro had a shot on goal from the face off dot at 13:52 of the opening period saved by Colgate netminder Hannah Murphy.
  • RIT had two power play chances late in the frame. Graduate student defensewoman Mia Tsilemos had a shot from the point and first year Ireland Stein had a shot on a loose puck in front of the Raiders net.
  • Kaia Malachino gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead on her goal 26 seconds into the second period.
  • RIT fired seven shots on net in the second. Senior forward Kylie Aquaro had a partial breakaway at 5:39 of the frame, skating in and firing a back-handed shot that Murphy turned aside.
  • Pickering skated into the Colgate zone, around the back of the Raider's net and stuffed a shot past Murphy on the far post. 
  • Kaltounkova tallied a power play goal at 12:55 of the third to give the Raiders a 4-1 lead and Sara Stewart scored at 18:24 to make it a 5-1 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Colgate outshot RIT 34-18.
  • Junior goalie Sophia Bellina made 29 saves in net and recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on Pickering's goal.
  • RIT was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Raiders went 1-of-5 with the extra skater.
