Men's Hockey drops 5-4 decision to Colgate

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior forward Adam Jeffery notched a goal and an assist in a 5-4 setback to visiting Colgate, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT opened the scoring at 12:33 of the first after senior forward Tanner Andrew finished a rush by jamming a short feed from sophomore forward Christian Catalano inside the left post.
  • The Tigers made it a 2-0 lead 1:21 later. Junior defenseman Xavier Lapointe took a long shot from the top-right corner of the Colgate zone that deflected off Jeffery and a Raider player's skate in the slot. Senior forward Evan Miller collected the loose puck and flipped a shot into the top-left corner of the goal.
  • Colgate responded with two goals to knot the score, 2-2, after the first period. Max Nagel stole a puck at the top of the Raider zone and skated down the right wing before picking the top-left corner with a wrist shot at 14:42. Colgate evened the score following a faceoff in the Tiger zone after Ryan Sullivan slipped a pass to Nic Belpedio in the left faceoff circle, who scored on a wrist shot over RIT first-year goaltender Jakub Krbecek's blocker.
  • Colgate took a 3-2 lead 35 seconds into the second period after Brett Chorske finished a short pass from Alex Dipaolo through a crowded crease.
  • RIT retied the game 52 seconds later. Graduate student forward Nick Cafarelli chased a loose puck down the left wing boards into the Raider zone and centered a puck to a trailing junior forward Simon Isabelle, who jammed a shot inside the right post.
  • The Tigers retook a 4-3 the lead at 10:47 after Jeffery one-timed a loose puck misplayed by a Colgate player in the left faceoff circle that found the net, far post.
  • Colgate bounced back with a pair of goals in a 1:39 span to carry a lead into the third period. Nagel skated around the top of the RIT zone before unleashing a shot from the point that redirected off Dipaolo in the slot past Krbecek at 12:28. Ben Raymond scored what proved to be the game-winner with 5:53 left in the second, wristing a shot over Krbecek's blocker off a short feed from Brett Merner.
