Women’s Soccer draws No. 18 Skidmore, 2-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT women's soccer team held on to pick up a tie on the road against nationally-ranked Skidmore, Friday.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Thoroughbreds got on the board in the 9th minute of the game with a goal from Ella Stone.
  • Junior forward Elena Onodera scored the game's next two goals for the Tigers, finding the back of the net in the 19th and 35th minutes. Junior defender Jillian Antol and senior midfielder Jesse Gomez were credited with assists on the first goal.  
  • Ella Stone found the equalizer for Skidmore in the 70th minute off a pass from Kyra Russman-Araya.
 
GAME NOTES
  • With the two goals, Onodera has seven on the season and eclipsed her season total (6) from the 2023 season. The junior leads RIT in 2024 with 20 points (7 goals, 6 assists).
  • Senior goalkeeper Emily Sanchez earned the draw in goal, making three saves in the game.
  • The Tigers out-shot Skidmore 10 to 9 and racked up seven corner kicks to the Thoroughbred's two corners.
  • The tie is the first positive result of the season against ranked opponents, having lost to then-No. 12 William Smith (2-1) and No. 20 Rochester (1-0) earlier in the season.

RIT takes on RPI in Troy, N.Y. tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 18). Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
