ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore outside hitter
Mia Gerber logged a match-high 17 kills along with 12 digs in a 3-1 (24-26, 25-13, 25-11, 25-15) Liberty League women's volleyball victory over visiting Bard, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT scored three-straight points to knot the first-set score, 13-13, before Bard answered with three points to retake a 16-13 lead. The Tigers scored four-straight for a 17-16 edge, but the Raptors rode a 5-2 run to a 21-19 edge. Later trailing 23-20, RIT tied the score, 23-23, with three-straight points, but Bard later broke a 24-24 tie with two points to take the opener.
- Tied, 4-4, in the second, RIT used an 11-2 surge to take a 15-6 lead, and later took a 13-point edge, 21-8, that proved insurmountable.
- Tied, 9-9, in the third, the Tigers won 16 of the next 18 points, including 11-unanswered to take a 2-1 overall lead. Sophomore outside hitter Macie Jolliffe notched three service aces during the final run, while senior outside hitter Catherine Vento added three kills.
- RIT pulled out to a 9-5 fourth-set lead, before Bard scored three straight to pull back within one, 9-8. The teams traded points before the Tigers used an 8-3 run, including three kills by senior outside hitter Samantha Cox, to take an 18-12 lead. Later leading 20-15, RIT finished the match with five-unanswered points to close the win.
MATCH NOTES
- RIT graduate student setter Sydney Neff added a four-set season-high 46 assists to go along with 14 digs and eight kills.
- Vento finished the match with 14 kills on .345 attacking as RIT finished the night with a season-high .292 team hitting percentage.
- Jolliffe totaled a career-high 19 digs while graduate student libero Hailey Blixt added 15 to lead four Tigers with double-digit digs.
- RIT improved to 3-0 in Liberty League play and has won 10 of their last 11 matches.
