Mia Gerber logged a match-high 14 kills while sophomore outside hitter
Macie Jolliffe added 13 kills and nine digs, but it was visiting Union earning a 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-21, 25-23) victory in Liberty League women's volleyball action, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT led, 7-3, in the first but Union bounced back with a 12-2 run to build a 15-9 lead. The Tigers got back within three, 16-13, but the Garnett Chargers used a 7-5 run for a match point, 24-17, it would later convert.
- RIT responded in the second with a 12-2 start. Union pulled back within seven, 16-9, but the Tigers used a 5-3 push for a 21-12 lead it would not relinquish.
- Tied, 10-10, in the third, RIT put together a 6-1 run, including two kills by senior outside hitter Catherine Vento, for a 16-11 lead. The Tigers led, 20-13, but Union finished the set on a 12-1 run, including nine-unanswered, to build a 2-1 lead.
- RIT built a 13-10 lead in the fourth, but Union bounced back with a 7-2 run to take a 17-15 lead. The Tigers retied the score, 17-17, with three-straight points to start a 6-2 run for a 21-19 lead, but the Garnett Chargers scored six of the final eight points to close the match.
MATCH NOTES
- RIT lost its first Liberty League match of the season after winning its first three.
- Graduate student setter Sydney Neff totaled 43 assists, 11 digs and seven kills.
- Vento finished with 11 kills on .346 attacking.
- Gerber also logged four service aces and seven digs.

RIT hits the road for a pair of matches next Saturday (Oct. 19) at Liberty League-rival Clarkson, taking on the Golden Knights at 1:00 p.m. before a non-league match with Rochester at 3:00 p.m.
