GENEVA, N.Y. – RIT senior guard
Emma Waite led the Tigers with 13 points as the women's basketball team beat William Smith, 71-60, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Back-to-back layups from junior Sydney Pearson and Waite, gave the Tigers an early 4-3 lead
- RIT went on a 8-5 scoring run and a driving layup from sophomore Erin DiPaola put the Tigers in front 12-8 midway through the first quarter
- First-year guard Ella Wilson closed out the first quarter with a jumper, giving RIT a 21-14 lead after the first ten minutes of play
- First-year forward Faye Kaplinski made a layup at 7:56 in the second, putting the Tigers in front 27-16
- For the next seven minutes, RIT went on a 19-7 scoring run and a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Ansley Orrell gave the Tigers a 44-23 lead going into halftime
- Waite made a driving layup at the seven minute mark in the third, putting the Tigers up 51-29
- RIT took a 59-37 lead after three quarters of play
- First-year guard Lauren Sabia earned a steal and then connected from behind the arc on the next possession, giving RIT a 65-37 lead, their largest of the game
- William Smith outscored RIT, 23-6 the remainder of the quarter, but still came up short against the Tigers
GAME NOTES
- DiPaola, Sabia, Kaplinski and Wilson all scored at least 10 points
- The Tigers out-rebounded William Smith, 48-33
- RIT was 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the free throw line
- The Tigers' bench outscored William Smith's bench 39-15
