Women's Hockey hit the road for a pair of CHA games at Mercyhurst

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's hockey team hit the road to play a pair of College Hockey America games at Mercyhurst this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 26-27).

RIT lost a pair of College Hockey America games at Lindenwood, losing 4-2 Friday and 3-2 in overtime, Saturday.
 
Lindenwood led after the first period, Saturday, but second-period goals from junior forward Kylie Aquaro and junior defensewoman Kyla Bear tied the score at 2-2. The Lions scored the game-winner 1:30 into overtime. Sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina made 33 saves in net.
 
Senior forward Nicole Ness scored 8:30 into the first period, while first year defensewoman Emma Pickering scored at 16:20 of the frame to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Lindenwood scored twice in the second period to tie the score and two more in the third to make it a 4-2 final. Bellina tied her career-high making 44 saves.
 
About RIT
RIT is second in the CHA, allowing 2.40 goals per game and blocked shots, averaging 14.24 per contest. The Tigers are third killing off 63-of-80 (78.8%) if its penalties and fourth in the league averaging 2.52 goals per game. RIT is fifth in power play (15-of-94) and averages a league-low 8:19 minutes in penalties per game.
 
Aquaro leads the team and is seventh in the CHA with 21 points. She leads the CHA with five power play goals and is tied for third in the league with 14 assists. Senior forward Emma Roland is second on the team 15 points (7g, 8a), while Alvarez is third on the team in scoring with 14 points (6g, 8a). Sophomore forward Jaidan Fahrny is fourth with 12 points (6g, 6a) and Ness is fifth with 11 points, including a team-best eight goals.   
 
Bellina leads the CHA with a 2.14 goals against average and a .936 save percentage, and is sixth averaging 26.27 saves per game. Junior goalie Sarah Coe is fourth in the league with a 2.72 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
 
Sophomore forward Lexi Sung is second in the CHA winning 62.5 percent of her face-offs. Junior forward Megan McCormick is sixth in the league winning 53.4 percent of her draws. Senior forward Lindsay Maloney is fifth in the CHA, winning 207 face offs.
 
First year defensewoman Emma Pickering is second in the CHA with 49 blocked shots, while senior defensewoman Mia Tsilemos is tied for sixth with 42 blocks. Aquaro and Tsilemos are tied for fourth in the league with a +8, while Ness is tied for eighth with a +7.

About Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst is 4-1-0 in its last five games, including a split at Robert Morris last weekend. Graduate student forward Olivia Cvar and junior forward Vanessa Upson each scored two goals in Friday's 6-1 win. First year defensewoman Sofia Ljung, senior forward Sara Boucher and first year forward Sofia Nuutinen each had two assists, while graduate student goalie Ena Nystrom made 19 saves in net to earn the win.
 
Senior forward Chantal Ste-Croix scored and Nystrom made 34 saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss.
 
Mercyhurst is third in the CHA averaging 2.85 goals per game and third defensively, allowing 2.50 goals per contest. The Lakers lead the CHA converting 23-of-83 power play chances and first, killing off 77-of-94 penalties.
 
Boucher leads Mercyhurst and is third in the CHA with 29 points. She is second in the league with 12 goals and 17 assists, averaging 1.12 points per game. Upson and Nuutinen are tied for second on the team and tied for fifth in the league with 22 points apiece. Upson is tied for fifth in the CHA with 10 goals, while Nuutinen is tied for third in the league with 14 assists. Sophomore forward Thea Johansson is fourth on the team and eighth in the CHA with 20 points (12g, 8a) and is tied for second in the league with 12 goals.
 
Nystrom is 12-12-1 on the season and is second in the league with a 2.32 goals against average and a .926 save percentage, averaging 27.77 saves per game.
 
RIT vs. Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst is 41-7-1 all time against RIT. The two teams split a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center Nov. 3-4. Mercyhurst won game one, 3-1, while the Tigers came back to win game two 3-2 in overtime.
 
First year forward Linda Rulle scored for RIT, while Sydney Pederson recorded a goal and an assist for the Lakers. Emma Roland scored twice, including the game-winner 42 seconds into overtime in game two. Bellina made 28 saves in net to earn the victory. It was the first win for RIT over the Lakers since a 1-0 victory on Jan. 6, 2020.
 
Roland has five points on four goals and assist against Mercyhurst, while Aquaro has four assists versus the Lakers. Coe has a 3.82 goals against average and a ,905 save percentage in eight career games versus Mercyhurst.
