MEDFORD, Mass. – The RIT women's volleyball team came up short, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 27-25) at Tufts, Friday at the Tufts Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing, 3-1, early in the first set, RIT rode a 5-1 run to a 6-4 lead. The Jumbos retook a 10-7 lead, but the Tigers answered with a 6-2 run for a 13-12 edge. Tufts moved back into the lead, 22-16, following a 10-3 run, but the Tigers scored six of the next seven points to claw back within one, 23-22. The Jumbos scored the final two points to close the set.
- Tufts opened a 10-8 second-set lead before RIT rode an 8-2 surge to a 16-12 lead. The Tigers clung to a 20-17 lead, but the Jumbos scored a 7-1 run for a 24-21 lead it would not relinquish.
- Tied, 5-5, in the third, Tufts took a 12-6 lead following a 7-1 run. Tufts extended its lead to 21-15, but RIT put together a 9-2 run to force a set point, 24-23. The teams traded kills before Tufts scored three points to close the match.
MATCH NOTES
- Senior middle blocker Grace Phelan logged seven kills, three service aces and two blocks.
- Senior setter Sydney Neff added 24 assists, nine digs and three blocks.
- Junior outside hitter Samantha Cox and first-year outside hitter Mia Gerber notched seven kills apiece.
- Senor libero Hailey Blixt was credited with 11 digs.

RIT plays two more matches at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23), taking on Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m. and Susquehanna at 1:30 p.m.
