Women's Volleyball falls to Trine, 3-0, and Grove City, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Trine, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23), and Grove City, 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 25-16) during the RIT Invitational, Saturday.
 
Trine 3, RIT 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23
  • RIT opened a 7-5 first-set lead before Trine rode a 12-2 run to a 17-9 lead. The Tigers pulled back within four, 23-19, but Trine scored two of the final three points to take the opening set.
  • RIT held a slim 8-7 lead in the second, before Trine used a 6-1 run to build a 13-9 edge. Later leading 17-14, Trine used a 6-0 run to build a 23-14 lead it would not relinquish.
  • RIT opened a five-point lead, 11-6, in the third-set, and later took its largest lead, 21-15. However, Trine finished the set with a 10-2 run to close the match.
  • Junior middle blocker Cat Vento totaled a team-high eight kills while senior setter Sydney Neff added 24 assists and eight digs.
  • Senior libero Hailey Blixt was credited with 10 digs.   
Grove City 3, RIT 1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 25-16)
  • In the first set, neither team led by more than three points until Grove City made up a 13-11 deficit with an 9-0 run for a 20-13 lead it would not relinquish.
  • RIT bounced back to take the second set, opening a 12-7 lead before Grove City came back within one, 12-11. The Tigers pulled away with an 8-3 surge to build a 20-14 lead en route to winning the set by five.
  • RIT opened an 8-2 lead and led by as many as nine points on three occasions, including 21-12. However, Grove City clawed back within two, 22-20, following an 8-1 run, and then scored the final five points to close the set.
  • RIT fell behind, 5-1, to start the fourth, but pulled back within two, 12-10. Grove City answered with a 10-3 surge for a 22-13 lead en route to closing the match.
  • First-year outside hitter Macie Jolliffe notched a match-high 14 kills to go along with seven digs.
  • Senior libero Hailey Blixt added 13 digs.
