ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Eight members of the RIT track & field program landed All-Niagara Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Sophomore
Emily DiMarco (Discus) was recognized on the women's side, while senior
Hassan Eissa (5,000), graduate student
Matthew Funicelli (Shot Put, Discus, Hammer), junior
Justin Jantzi (200, 400, 4x400), sophomore
Jason Mohr (Javelin), sophomore
Matthew Resnick (4x400), first-year
Ryan Senf (4x400) and graduate student
Otto Wilson (4x400) landed men's honors.
The top-five individuals in each event from each of the nation's 10 regions earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
DiMarco finished the season ranked second in the region and 32nd nationally in the discus, bettering her program record with a winning 43.06m/141' 3" mark during the University of Rochester Invitational (Apr. 22).
Eissa ranked fourth in the region with a career-best 14:38.23 clocking to win the 5,000 at last week's Atlantic Region Championships (May 17). He also garnered all-region honors last fall with a ninth-place finish at the Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships.
Funicelli is currently ranked 17th nationally in the shot put and 19th in the hammer and will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships later this week. He broke his own program shot put record (16.42m/53' 10.5") with his third-place finish at Atlantic Region Championships after bettering his hammer record (57.97m/190' 2") with a first-place performance at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational (Apr. 22). Also the program record holder in the discus, he ended the season with the region's third-ranked mark (48.89m/160' 5") posted at the RIT Invitational (Apr. 8).
Jantzi broke a 46-year-old program 400 record (48.21) and a 13-year-old 200 record (21.55), before anchoring the program-record breaking 4x400 relay (3:15.21) en route to Athlete of the Meet honors at the Liberty League Championships (May 5). His 200 mark ranked second in the region, while his 400 time was fifth.
Jantzi also joined Senf, Wilson and Resnick in lowering the 4x400 mark (3:14.6) during a fourth-place effort at the Atlantic Region Championships for the region's third-fastest clocking.
Mohr logged the region's third-best javelin mark (56.74m/186' 2") to finish first at the Rochester Spring Classic (Apr. 8).
