ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior right-hander
Alex Slotter held defending conference champion Ithaca to two hits while striking out six in 6.2 scoreless innings of work as the RIT Tigers defeated the Bombers, 4-1, on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Tigers struck first in the top of the second, as graduate student first baseman Ian Libby singled to right to score senior catcher Kyle Poorman and make it 1-0.
- The next batter, first year second baseman Jarin Moses, reached when the Ithaca right fielder dropped a fly ball, allowing Libby to score and extend the lead to 2-0.
- Moses knocked home Libby again in the sixth, doubling down the left field line to up the score to 3-0.
- Later in the sixth, senior designated hitter Zach Mecca drove Moses home on a sacrifice fly.
- Ithaca got onto the board with a rally in the eighth, scoring a run on a double play to narrow the score to 4-1. The Tigers were able to keep them from scoring again and took home the 4-1 win.
GAME NOTES:
- Slotter's 6.2 innings pitched were a career-high, as were his six strikeouts.
- Graduate student right-hander Eric Sipling earned his second save of the season, allowing one earned run on one hit in 2.1 innings of work, striking out two.
- Poorman threw out one baserunner from behind the plate on the day.
