Game Recap: Softball |

Softball falls twice at Clarkson, 1-0 and 6-1

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped both end of a Liberty League doubleheader at Clarkson, Saturday, 1-0 and 6-1.

GAME 1 – CLARKSON 1, RIT 0
  • RIT was hitless until senior Alexis Smith led off the fifth with a single to right. Smith then advanced to second after an error by the Clarkson shortstop on a ball hit by first-year Autumn Broyles. Sophomore Erin Ozminkowski advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, but the Golden Knights induced two fly-outs to hold the Tigers scoreless.
  • Clarkson brought the lone run home in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, RBI double by Riley Page.
  • Sophomore Lexi Pieri took the complete-game loss, scattering six hits while striking out three.
GAME 2 – CLARKSON 6, RIT 1
  • RIT scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Junior Elise Guth drew a leadoff walk and, after advancing to second on a single to left by sophomore Bailey Kehl, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Maddy Cook. Senior Alexis Smith then plated Guth with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
  • Clarkson put together a decisive six-hit, six-run sixth inning to complete the sweep.
  • First-year Jessica Majot only allowed two runs on three hits in five innings to take the loss.
