Softball drops two to Geneseo, 5-4 and 11-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped a pair of games to Geneseo on Wednesday, 5-4 and  11-3.

GAME 1 – Geneseo 5, RIT 4
Sophomore second baseman Bailey Kehl went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, but the Tigers fell to a late rally by Geneseo in Game 1. Senior catcher Alexis Smith also had two hits.
  • The Tigers took the first-inning lead on a single by sophomore second baseman Bailey Kehl that scored sophomore shortstop Lillian Rienstra and junior left fielder Elise Guth to make it 2-0. Kehl was able to advance to third on an error during the play.
  • Kehl scored the next play on a single by Smith to extend the leaded to 3-0.
  • Sophomore third baseman Erin Ozminkowski added to the RIT lead in the third with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
  • Geneseo came back with two in the fourth and three in the fifth for the victory.
GAME 2 – Geneseo 11, RIT 3
RIT sophomore center fielder Maddy Cook went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Tigers fell in the second game of the doubleheader, 11-3. Graduate student right fielder Haley Czerwinski went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Geneseo jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • The Knights pulled ahead to a 6-0 lead with three runs in the third inning, including a home run by Sydney Bolton.
  • Three more runs scored for Geneseo in the top of the fifth to make the score 9-0, but an RBI double by sophomore center fielder Maddy Cook made the score 9-2 and kept the Knights from ending the game early.
  • After Geneseo scored two in the top of the seventh, RIT was able to score a run on a sacrifice fly  by senior catcher Alexis Smith. It wasn't enough, however, as the Tigers fell, 11-3.

The Tigers head to Canton on Friday for a doubleheader with St. Lawrence. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
