Ian Libby went 4-for-6 with a homerun and three RBI as the Tigers came back to beat visiting Alfred State, 13-12 (10 inn.), Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred State took a 2-0 first-inning lead on Tim Holler's two-run homerun, before RIT answered with four runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning, including a two-run single by senior DH Chris Reilly and back-to-back RBIs by sophomore RF Adam Marsh and first-year C Roberto Reade.
- The Saxons scored four runs, including two on Holler's second homerun of the game, to retake a 6-4 lead in the third.
- The Tigers got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out single by Reilly, but Alfred State built a 10-5 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth.
- RIT put together a four-run fifth, including a three-run homerun over the centerfield wall by Libby to pull within a run, 10-9.
- Saxon Nick Serce hit a solo homerun down the right field line in the top of the sixth and smacked another over the right-centerfield wall in the eighth to push the visitors to a 12-9 lead.
- RIT bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to knot the game, 12-12. Marsh brought home two runs with an RBI double and came home on a triple by Reade.
- RIT scored the deciding run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th. With one out, Reade reached on a throwing error by the Alfred State shortstop before advancing to second on a walk by senior OF Maxx Countryman. Reade advanced to third after the Saxons forced Countryman out at second on a groundball by senior Zach Mecca, before coming home for the winning run after junior SS Randy Dodig beat out a bad throw on a ball hit to the Alfred State third baseman.
GAME NOTES
- First-year Jack Luensmann got the relief win, holding the Saxons hitless over the final two innings while striking out three.
- Reilly finished the afternoon 2-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Marsh ended up 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two batted in.
- Reade hit 3-for-6 with two RBI while scoring the winning run.
- RIT won its third-straight game, scoring 44 runs over the last two days, and is 6-1 in its last seven games. The Tigers swept visiting St. Lawrence, 20-11 and 11-7, on Tuesday.
