Baseball falls to Vassar, 17-13

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The RIT Tigers were walked off by Vassar on Saturday, 17-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Tigers jumped ahead in the top of the first, scoring three runs including two on a double by senior left fielder Chris Reilly.
  • Vassar made it 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a single by Reid Laperkas.
  • RIT extended the lead to 5-1 in the second, as senior catcher Kyle Poorman doubled home fellow senior Zach Mecca to make it 4-1 before later scoring on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Randy Dodig.
  • The Brewers scored four runs in the third, including a three-run home run by Andrew Kanellis, to tie it, 5-5.
  • Poorman scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to regain the lead for the Tigers, 6-5.
  • Vassar answered in the bottom half with three runs to retake the lead, 8-6.
  • RIT scored five in the top of the fifth, including a two-RBI single by Dodig, to again take the lead, 11-8.
  • Vassar fought back and was able to tie the game in the sixth before taking a 13-11 lead in the seventh on a triple by Jensen Bergman.
  • The Tigers tied it up again, 13-13, thanks to an RBI double by first year second baseman Jarrin Moses, who later scored the  tying run on a single by junior center fielder John Bagley.
  • The Brewers would ultimately walk off the Tigers with a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth by Jack Silvera for the 17-13 victory.
GAME NOTES:
  • The second game of the would-be doubleheader was called due to thunderstorms in the second inning with RIT leading, 1-0.
  • Dodig, Reilly, and Poorman had two RBI each.
  • Poorman had two doubles on the day.
  • Bagley went 3-5 with a double.
