Softball swept by St. John Fisher, 9-2, 5-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team lost twice to visiting St. John Fisher, 9-2 and 5-0, Tuesday afternoon.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at St. John Fisher, but was moved to RIT due to unplayable field conditions. The Cardinals were still the home team for both games.

GAME 1 – ST. JOHN FISHER 9, RIT 2
  • Sophomore Erin Ozminkowski finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while sophomore Bailey Kehl went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Tigers in the opener.
  • Kehl started the game with a lead-off walk and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Lillian Rienstra and a ground-out by senior Alexis Smith before scoring on an RBI single by Ozminkowski.
  • St. John Fisher responded with two runs in the second and three more in the third for a 5-1 lead.
  • The Tigers got one back in the fourth after first-year Hannah Slater drew a lead-off walk. Slater advanced to second on a ground-out by first-year Autumn Broyles and, following back-to-back walks by graduate student Haley Czerwinski and sophomore Maddy Cook, came home on a bases-loaded walk by Kehl.
  • The Cardinals rebounded with a run in the bottom of the fourth before putting the game out of reach with three in the fifth inning.
  • Sophomore Morgan Best took the loss for RIT, allowing three earned runs on four hits while walking five and striking out one.
GAME 2 – ST. JOHN FISHER 5, RIT 0
  • The Cardinals broke open a scoreless game by plating all five runs in the fifth inning.
  • RIT first-year starter Jessica Majot only faced four batters over the minimum through four innings before the decisive fifth, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out four in the loss.
  • Majot, Rienstra and sophomore Kristin Hino each notched a hit for the Tigers.
