ORLANDO, FL. – The RIT baseball team split a doubleheader with Muhlenberg on Saturday to conclude the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 4-3 extra-innings win and a 5-3 defeat.
GAME 1 – RIT 4, Muhlenberg 3 (8 innings)
Senior pitcher
Jon Opalewski threw seven innings and struck out 10 while first year catcher
Roberto Reade singled home the winning run in the eighth inning as the Tigers took the opening game of the doubleheader, 4-3.
- Sophomore RF Adam Marsh started scoring in the top of the first, singling home junior shortstop Randy Dodig to give RIT the 1-0 lead.
- Muhlenberg took the lead in the bottom of the first, 2-1, as Jake Swerdloff doubled in the tying run and then scored the go-ahead run on an Aidan Legner single.
- The Tigers tied the game, 2-2, when first year Trent Rapp scored on a passed ball in the fourth.
- Marsh drove in Dodig for the 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
- A two-out double by Jonathan Toth tied the game, 3-3, in the seventh inning.
- The Tigers took the lead again, 4-3, in the top of the eighth on a one-out single by Reade.
- Graduate student Eric Sipling put the Mules down in order in the bottom of the eighth for the save.
GAME 2 – Muhlenberg 5, RIT 3
First year 2B
Jarin Moses' third home run of the season highlighted the Tigers offense as they fell, 5-3, to Muhlenberg in game two of the doubleheader.
- Muhlenberg scored first with a double by Swerdloff in the third to make the score 1-0.
- Toth singled in the fourth to open a three-run rally for Muhlenberg that extended their lead to 4-0.
- Moses homered to left-center with two outs and two on in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 4-3.
- Muhlenberg added an insurance run in the seventh for the final 5-3 score.
