ORLANDO, FL. – Junior pitcher
John Arnold struck out a career-high 13 hitters as the RIT baseball team lost to Rutgers-Newark in 10 innings on Friday, 4-1, as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, when RIT senior SS Randy Dodig hit a two-out single to left, scoring junior CF John Bagley to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- A two-out double in the ninth by Rutgers-Newark's Reid Duffur tied the game, 1-1.
- A double by Michael Weinbel in the 10th put Rutgers-Newark ahead, 3-1.
- Rutgers-Newark scored their final run on a double-steal to make it 4-1.
GAME NOTES:
- Arnold's 13 strikeouts is the most for a Tiger since Stevie Branche struck out 15 on 4/14/2017 against Rochester.
- Arnold allowed only four hits on the day.
- Graduate student 1B Ian Libby was 2-4 with a walk.
